Arrested two mayors and some other people. It is, of course, about money, by no means about ideals. But even those people, who come to money a little differently from us ordinary people, have some ideals. Moreover, as they are politicians by trade, their ideals are what a shoemaker sewed, a doctor a stethoscope, a waiter a wallet, a carpenter a planer, a trowel mason, an architect a rapidographer, a fountain pen writer, a cook cook, a housekeeper tintnblaj pencil, a palette painter pallets, a hausmeister without a pen, a cook without a cooker, a writer without a pen, an architect without a rapidograph and a bricklayer without a trowel, even a doctor without a stethoscope and a shoemaker without needles can, as can a waiter without a wallet and a carpenter without a planer, but each has in the coat of arms, on the flag and in someone else's mention, that one symbolic tool, which in the essential sense they know how to use, who respect and who are the same to him as to the priest his cross. If a priest despises the cross, if he makes it public, he will take off his clothes, break his professional vows, and move on as a civilian. Or as they say in another profession: they will hang their football boots on a peg. But how are things with the politician and his ideals?
Uskok is an authorized state company for monitoring, investigation and arrests. The impression that comes from the media, but also from the speech of the Uskok family, after an arrest is made - that is, after Uskok conducts an investigation and blah, blah - is that Uskok has always followed and investigated all people, but only after arresting them, the public finds out about them who they are and what they are. Uskok is like Bergman in “Scenes from Married Life”: it shows us how communities fall apart and how people within moral communities, morally and intellectually fall apart. But mostly he shows us what ideals are for a Croatian politician. True, the moment when Uskok starts showing the public series is one of the biggest secrets of the craft, which was remarkably well noticed by the politician Milanović., because those they stigmatized today, handing the case over to the public and the police, could have been exposed long ago. But, like, they didn't do it in the interest of the investigation…
But let’s get back to the ideals: Uskok, taking into account the political balance, about what might anger the rulers, or, as some believe, about what is truth and what is justice, handed over the mayors of the two biggest and the most striking worldview of the party, HDZ and SDP. These two parties are two ideals, two different stethoscopes and two trowels. By arresting both at the same time, our authorities, investigators and cops want to tell us that it is not true that only one party is mired in corruption and crime, but that it is something that is equally characteristic of both sides. Uskoks, poduskoks, police and courts should not deal with this type of public action, and general education, but good. Something else, however, is still interesting. Ideals. Awl and trowel, a stethoscope of every policy.Vinko Grgić , Social Democrat, Mayor of Nova Gradiška, is an architect by profession. And he is much more interesting to us than Dražen Barišić , a Hadezite and defectologist. Both are very respectable in their communities, winning over sixty percent of the vote in the mayoral election. But while Barisic represents a ruling, conservative paradigm, whose ideals are close to the Catholic Church in Croatia, and whose delinquents and Remetinec councilors (not councilors) we know almost everything about, Grgic's ideals are leftist, social democratic, or at least democratic. by necessity of distinction opposite from Barišić's. Namely, it should be so, because it is the only way to reach some kind of government in a municipality, city or state through a democratic procedure.
True, Vinko Grgić presents himself as a reliable technocrat - and, let it be said, the beginning of any technocracy is in the Balkan and Croatian conditions in those three matchboxes, in the pebble under one, and in the fast technocrat's hands and the language he speaks roughly. this: "I know very well how to manage funds, which gives me a certain ease, very much needed in the position of mayor." And then this: “There is also the knowledge of the real value of most jobs, which is why I do not allow anyone to blackmail me. All those who are hired by the city for a certain job can be sure that they will work for a fair price, and not for 'peanuts', because I really appreciate the work. ” That is what Vinko Grgić, an architect, the mayor of Nova Gradiška, said in 2016. The film is a worldview, identity three-and-a-half-minute saga, which deals with the fundamental symbolic tool of politics and politicians: ideals. In doing so, let there be no misunderstanding: ideals are like a penis for a politician (you imagine the other, less polite word for the same thing here). You can't have two penises, one for the house, the other for the outside. So, what do Vinko Grgić's ideals look like?
The first thing we see, and what we will watch the longest, is a house with a pool. There is only one thing worse than bad taste in architecture: imitation of good taste. A huge, clumsy white concrete building with a pool, reminiscent of houses from the cult newspaper Dom i dizajn, planted on a hill somewhere above the impoverished, devastated, sad Posavina plain, where everything is so dilapidated, neglected and dirty, except the extraordinary ethnic purity, more reminiscent of a crematorium for hopes and dreams, and for the few remaining corpses, erected by the local Ficgeraldo in the middle of nowhere, than it would really be a family home. Parquet is, admittedly, expensive, the furniture is as drawn, everything is as in the scenery for a new regional soap opera, and everything is full of details of a general void.
The groom is in a black and white waiter uniform, the bride is in a wedding dress. They move around the building, the mise-en-scène is very lively, elaborated in detail. The bride makes coffee on gas, while the groom is engaged in architecture. Of course, not with the help of a rapidograph, but behind a computer screen. Just designing what? The church! In the next scene we see a wedding ring on his finger. A little later on the wall art decoration - beware, successful Croats do not have works of art on the walls, but art decorations, which are hung by decorators when arranging the space - but on that decoration we recognize Glagolitic letters… Church, religion, Glagolitic, pool, concrete imitation of a family house, and many, frighteningly many internal and external gaps, these are, as far as we can see from this film, the ideals of Vinko Grgić. And as ideals are the same as dick - as this word is presented and accentuated on the Croatian language portal - and one cannot have them in several different copies, so all these are the ideals of the Croatian Social Democrat, SDP mayor. Only one thing can be added to these ideals: a certain ease in disposing of public funds. Or the ease of disposing of the reputation delegated to him by the will of the voters.
And then what does a man get when he votes for SDP instead of HDZ? Leaders of political parties should not apologize to voters if a criminal is found among them. She should not apologize even if it turns out that the party was led by a criminal. Namely, no one is responsible for other people's thefts. But because of collective fraud, because of false ideals, because of the crematorium for social democratic illusions on the hill above Nova Gradiška, it would be wise for them to apologize. Thieves' wallets are not common to them, but this cannot be said so unconditionally for this aesthetics and this complete emptiness, for these ideals that guided Vinko Grgić. I would never vote for a politician who built such a house for himself and such a picture hangs on his wall. I would never vote for a politician in whose house there are no books. I would never vote for Vinko Grgic, though I have not even come to know whether a man is a thief or not a thief.
