There are three options, one sounds pretty insane U.S. President Donald Trump canceled the Republican convention in Florida scheduled for August on Thursday due to the increase in coronavirus cases in that state. Trump had earlier moved the convention from North Carolina to Florida, due to restrictions imposed by the authorities there on gathering, but the rise in coronavirus cases has prompted some Republicans to cancel their attendance at a rally in Florida. Trump said it was not the right time to stick to a “convention with a lot of people”. “The timing of this rally is not good,” Trump said at a White House press briefing. "It's not right because of what happened recently, the rise in cases in Florida. It's not a good time to hold a big convention." He said he ordered his aides to cancel the event "to protect the Americans". Republican delegates will meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the original hall where the convention was to be held, in the week beginning Aug. 24, Trump said. He added that he would continue to give a speech, but in a "different form" and said there were plans for so-called "telescopes" during the week. Trump, who will run against Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the Nov. 3 election, moved the event from Charlotte to Jacksonville, Florida after the governor there refused to guarantee Trump he would be able to hold a bigger event in the country. Trump says he has already informed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantos of his decision, which comes at a time when the U.S. is dealing with a large number of new Covid-19 cases in the Northeast, the region hardest hit in the first months of the outbreak. Florida is now one of the countries with the highest number of new coronavirus cases, in which nearly 390 thousand people have been infected so far, and 5,600 have died. While new cases have surfaced in the country in recent weeks, some Republican lawmakers and delegates have said they will not travel to the rally in Florida. Don Huizenga , a Republican delegate from Minnesota, was excited to travel two weeks ago, but changed his mind after an increase in coronavirus cases in Florida. "I really wanted to go, but with the increase in coronavirus cases, it just doesn't make sense anymore. A lot of people are worried," Huizenga said earlier this week. The number of registered coronavirus cases in the United States on Thursday exceeded four million. Florida reported 173 new deaths, a record daily increase, the state's health authorities said. On Wednesday, the death toll from Covid-19 in the U.S. rose for the second day in a row by more than 1,100, and record daily increases in deaths were recorded in Alabama, California, Nevada and Texas. The daily death toll is still well below April levels when Covid-19 killed an average of about 2,000 people a day
