...Xsenophases declaimed agaist the Egiptian myth of  an eart This remarcable man earth-walking,duing, resuscitatet god.
Hi said that if Orisis was a man, they should not worship him,  and tha if  he was a god, they need not lament hih suffering. This remarcable man was the Voltair of Greece; there had been free thinkers before his time, but they had reserved their oppinion for their disciples. Xsenophanes declared tha the truth should be made to all. He lived, like voltair, to a great age: he poured forth a multitude of controversial works; he made his bussiness to attack Homer, and reviled him bittely fo having endowed the god of his poem with the passions and propensities of men; he denied the old theory of the Gold Ages, and maintaimed that civilization was the work of time and of man's own toil. His viws were no doubt distatfull to the  vulgar crowd by whom he was sorrunded; and even to cultivate an imaginative mind whivh vere sunk in sentimental idolatry, blinded by the splendor of the Homeric poems. He was howevar,in no way interfered with; religious persecution was unkown  in the  Greek world...
