JANAF AFFAIR Ivanka Toma Why didn't Milanovic fire the head of the Tax Office if he knew everything? Isn't the Tax Administration an important state institution, and isn't it dangerous for the state if a person at the head of it is obsessed with crime? Zoran Milanovic, Nada Cavlovic Smiljanec Zoran Milanovic, Nada Cavlovic Smiljanec Cropix Posted: September 23, 2020 11:29 pm Facebook Twitter Messenger E-mail The current, so far the fiercest conflict between the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović and the Prime Minister Andrej Plenković over the investigation into the Janaf affair, has opened questions to which both should give answers. Milanović claims that the Minister of Police Davor Božinović knew that an investigation was being conducted against the President of the Management Board Janaf Dragan Kovačević , and that the Prime Minister Plenković knew the same thing then. From this he concludes that USKOK and the police failed to arrest Kovačević and entrepreneur Krešo Petek in November last year for handing over almost two million kuna in bribes. Namely, it was the time of the campaign for the president of the state (the husband of the then president Jakov Kitarović was in the club where the money was taught). Milanovic also points out that in February this year, Kovacevic, despite the corruption that was known, won another term at the helm of Janaf. As the main argument, Milanović said that he was also the Prime Minister, and that he knew everything, so Plenković had to know as well. There is no reason not to trust Milanovic, and from that position his questions are very logical and deserve an answer. Have the police and USKOK really subordinated their work and priorities to the political goals of the current government? According to the CPC, it should be as Plenković said. The Minister of the Interior, the Prime Minister and the President should know nothing about the investigation. So is SOA. That should be the case, although it is hard to believe that in reality it is. Milanovic himself said that as prime minister he knew everything. However, if he knew, it would be good to explain why, despite the fact that the former head of the Tax Administration, Nada Čavlović Smiljanec, was being investigated for favoring Osijek businessman Željko Biloš , he still kept the woman at the head of the Tax Administration. Isn't the Tax Administration an important state institution, and isn't it dangerous for the state if a person at the head of it is obsessed with crime? If the police ministers and prime ministers know everything, as Milanovic says, then it can be concluded that Plenković kept Kovačević at the head of Janaf because he was a member of the HNS and otherwise he was threatened with the collapse of the government before the internal party elections. By the same logic, it can be concluded that Milanović kept Čavlović Smiljanec at the head of the Tax Administration because he needed
