„Industrialism:
The social system or
economic organizatio of workers which
denies that the working class and the capitalist class, as such, are brothers ,
and recognized the irrepressible nature of the conflict between the two.
Industrialist contend that the struggle bethween the two classes can
not end until the capitalist class is thrown off labor's back. They also contend
that an injury to one workingman is an injury to all; and consequently, they
organize the whole working class into one union, subdivided only in such bodies
as their respective industries demand, in order to wrestle as one body
constituented of the workers of all industries for the immedite amelioration of
its membership, and for their eventual emancipation by the total over of the throw
of economic and political rule of the capitalist class. In the capitalist sense
, industrialism means the ownerwship of industry by the owners for gain and not
for use or service. In the communistic sense , industrialism mean the
ownershipp of indutry by those who work –those
who produce and operate industry for the benefit, use and service of all producers, and as well for those who, throungh phisical or mental impediment , are unable
to produce. The aim of the industrialists is to so organize the worker that they shall not only be a
factor in thowing off the capitalist class rule , but also a part and parcel of
the industries, so that after the revolution they may efficiently carry on the
develop all the industrial proceses. The co-ordination of the actual technical processes
is almost as important , from the theoretical point of view of future industrialism, as in the
futherance of the class struggle. It is for this reason that the I.W.W. preamble contains the
representatition about the building of
new society within the shelf of the
old industrial unionism : the organization of workers by industry as opposed to organization by
craft. Whereas in craft unionism the
workers are organized according to their occupation, trade or profession,
irespective of industry, in industrial unionizm
the workers are organized according to
the industry irrespective of occupation, trade or profession. For example , all
the workers in the transport industry
whether clerc, cleaners, ingineers, porters , carpenters or printer, would be
organized in that industry as one big
union. In other worlds , industrial union
which organize the workers in an entire industry into one organization
, intead of dividing them into separate craft.
