While the police and the prosecution have no new knowledge or actions against the well-known Varaždin psychiatrist who is heavily accused of sexual exploitation of patients, his former boss, head of the Psychiatry Department of Varaždin General Hospital, received two reports from his colleagues in 2016 about his inappropriate behavior.
According to her, she initiated the procedure, but after that she was removed from the position of the head of the department, she was exposed to pressure and left the Varaždin hospital and looked for a new job. The psychiatrist sued her for mobbing and the procedure is still ongoing, which she herself confirmed.
Lawyer
- Yes, that's right and that's all I can tell you, because according to the advice of my lawyer, given that the procedure is ongoing, I can't say anything more - mr. sc. Zemira Medved, special psychiatrist. According to our interlocutors, his behavior towards patients was known not only in the hospital, but it was also a "public secret". However, they explain the silence of the institutions by the fact that the psychiatrist had powerful protectors, both in the then and current director of the hospital, but they say that he had influential protectors in politics as well as in church circles. The only consequence he suffered was that in 1999, when it was learned that he was in a relationship with a 16-year-old patient, his contract at the Čakovec hospital was not extended. He went on a short mission to Benin, and upon his return in the 2000s he got a job at the Varaždin hospital, where he still works.
We asked psychotherapist Nebojsa Budjanovac how one of the psychiatrist's patients came to him.

- I am the leader of the crisis team of the Red Cross of Varaždin County and people in various crisis situations call me. I first heard about that psychiatrist in 2010. Three girls who were in a relationship with him, who were his patients, came to talk, independently of each other. They did not know each other. They told the story of how he quickly separated them from the boys and had sex with him. They were 19-20 years old at the time, and he was 40, but he seemed much younger. I wanted to report it to the chamber at the time, but they did not want to confirm it. I first reported this to the chamber in 2016 when I came across cases of some other girls. Some of the relationships were with the patients ’consent, but I found it unethical.
