Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic said on Wednesday that Zagreb has not gone bankrupt and will not go bankrupt, and announced that the City will have money for a fund for reconstruction after the earthquake, which is a priority for the city.
"The city of Zagreb will be the last to go bankrupt in this country, which means never. The city of Zagreb will have money for priority projects and it has money and it will have money for everything we need to beat Covid," Bandic said.
At the press conference "Acts of the Mayor", on the occasion of tomorrow's session of the City Assembly, he sharply denied the statements of HDZ MP Davor Filipovic, who warned yesterday that Zagreb has serious liquidity problems and will go bankrupt if there is no radical change in governance. city finances and property.
"If Zagreb is on the verge of bankruptcy, then Croatia is already bankrupt, then Croatia is not. It is frivolous, irresponsible and it is not in line with what I talk about daily with its party president and prime minister. I would ask us to get serious, put our heads together and we are working in the interest of the citizens of this city and this country, and especially the citizens who were affected by the earthquake ", said Bandić.
He appealed to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković "to tame his 'skojevci', to incite him a little" because this could have "far-reaching consequences" for the disruption of the financial capital market and confidence in the City of Zagreb and the state.
'If Zagreb were bankrupt, Croatia would not be able to function'
Bandic also sent a special message to banks and credit agencies, apologizing "on behalf of irresponsible people" who spread misinformation, such as Filipovic. He said that banks and credit agencies will have to call, and that Filipovic's statements "go as far as criminal charges", but he is not sure if he will pull for that.
"Not that it is irresponsible, but dangerous. Imagine the claim that the City is bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy, and is six and a half times less indebted than Croatia," says Bandic.
